If you've never flown in or out of Gibraltar's airport I recommend you find yourself a flight there at the earliest opportunity - it's insanely cool. Not only is the airport fairly small, with a road that runs through the landing strip on a narrow strip of land the view of The Rock is jaw-dropping. Even though you're in the air the Rock of Gibraltar is just so immense you may as well be on the ground. We managed cheap-o flights about a year before Monarch went bust, but we couldn't really justify the expensive accommodation in Gibraltar proper so we stayed a few mins walk away in La Línea de la Concepción. This budget plan worked out even better since it meant we had to cross the runway every day we went into Gibraltar; and if I haven't mentioned it already its a truly crazy, fun and awesome experience. Just seeing the massive rock looming before you, the one that you plan on climbing when it's 40°C is pretty daunting.
The Challenge: Rollitos - Because Baby Leaps found a recipe that was more meal, less snack and sounded like fun.
Honestly, I have no recollection of the food in Gibraltar, pretty sure we just lived off water, iceblocks (ice lollies), ice cream and the occasional crackers. It was so damn hot I think that was all we managed for our long weekend break. What I do remember seeing a lot of were Spanish paella, seafood and so many British or Irish pubs. Going to a new city or country to eat the same food I eat at home is not my jam but in the case of Gibraltar we just barely ate because of the heat - perhaps that's worse?
