A wintry dish that smells of Christmas.

Iceland is awesome. I remember flying into a rugged landscape and once out of the airport heading to Reykjavik we immediately started comparing it to NZ. The smell of sulfur was much like that in Rotorua, the sparse vegetation & undulating rock was like we were driving down to camp in Tongariro National Park and the lack or people/traffic was like the middle of nowhere Mackenzie country. We loved it. We loved how unexpectedly similar and yet very different it all was. We had hoped to see the Nothern Lights but obviously that's a made-up marketing ploy since they don't exist. (Obviously joking, we're not starting some new conspiracy theory here! Or are we...) We had no idea what the food would be like but honestly didn't care. We were there for cold, Northern Lights & snorkeling in a Glacial Lake!
The Challenge: Breaded Lamb & spiced cabbage - Because again, Baby Leaps hates fish and for once we agreed fermented shark, skate or anything fishy did not sound appealing.
We were pretty terrible humans in Iceland. We went to a restaurant and ordered whale and puffin. Both we delicious, but having since learned that 65% of whale sold within Iceland goes to restaurants and therefore mostly tourists I wouldn't do it again (or puffin for that matter). I did it then, I enjoyed it, but you live and learn right? Skyr, hotdogs and the various breads though, those are delightful. Lamb seems to be a big favourite in Iceland, so it seemed fitting to go for it since we weren't likely to get hold of a sheeps head, sheeps balls or fermented shark...
