I love Italy. I loved my first trip with Nah Leaps in 2009 visiting Rome, Florence & Pisa. I loved a similar trip to the first with friends and the random long weekend to northern Sardinia. It wasn't until 2020 though, the year of covid, when we spent around 6 weeks in Italy, that I realized how different each region was and fell even more in love. Before the pandemic really kicked off we went to a wedding in Sicily, then in mid-August, we escaped to Venice, Colmurano & Boveglio; before managing one final "break", in October staying in Sant'Antioco, Sardinia. Our new faves - Venice (devoid of cruise ships and low on tourists) & mysterious Sardinia. If you haven't been to Sardinia, go. Go and stay south. Avoid the northern tourist hot spots and explore the beaches, museums and archaeological sites.
The Challenge: Saltimbocca - Because Nah Leaps had a fe suggestions that Baby Leaps shot down and decide that she wanted Saltimbocca. This world food thing was her idea so Nah Leaps was out.
Pizza, Pasta & tiramisu classic Italian fare, and like so many other people, we've made plenty of pasta dishes, pizzas and salads but there is so much more than that to Italian cuisine right? The second we got back from Sardinia Nah Leaps was trying out pardule, culargiones, S'erbuzzo & various torte recipes which meant those couldn't be part of the challenge. Thankfully, Italy has so many regional favourites and despite Nah Leaps request for Osso Bucco we went with Saltimbocca.
