Muqluba, humus, zhug? & pita - a wholesome meal that tastes of ur trip to Petra
That scene after an epic adventure with Indy where you see the treasury; in the third (best?) Indian Jones film is probably the time I discovered Petra and Jordan. Since then, it was always a matter of when not if I would get to visit for myself. Baby Leaps put together a wee road-trip with every day planned out, (with some flexibility on the details at least) and so with a couple of friends we explored Jordan; north-to-south.
9 days of pure wonder, adventure (the driving alone was hilariously chaotic), and very, very delicious food.
The Challenge: Maqluba & hummus - Because nothing reminded me more of Jordan than the green stuff on the worlds smoothest hummus & we didnt get around to trying muqlaba while we were in Jordan.
The biggest challenge here was finding out what the green stuff was called that topped our hummus almost everywhere. I decided it was something like zhug (a Yemeni hot sauce that took me many, many Google searches to discover). I ended up making something, somewhat similar to what we had at my absolute favourite restaurant "My Mom's Recipe Restaurant" in Petra, but mine wasn't quite the same. Baby Leaps wanted to lead the charge on the hummus and maqluba (upside down) & miscalculated the serving size meaning I spent about four days eating leftovers (not complaining).
